Runner Fined in VFNHP

"They shouldn't restrict people from exercising and trying to stay healthy in a public park," John Bell said.

"John Bell was enjoying quiet miles in Valley Forge National Historical Park on Sunday morning when flashing lights prompted a sprint back to the parking lot. There, two park rangers hit the 56-year-old marathoner with a $100 fine for running in a park closed during the government shutdown," reports Runner's World.

Bell, of Chadds Ford in Chester County, is fighting the citation, the magazine reports.

“After the shock wore off, I thought ‘this isn’t right,’ they shouldn’t restrict people from exercising and trying to stay healthy in a public park,” Bell told Runner's World.
