Mont Clare Marine Unit Honored for Rescue

A 7-year-old girl was pulled from the Schuylkill River recently.

Lauding them for their courage and dedication, Upper Providence Township’s Don Stiteler, director of fire and emergency services, honored members of the Mont Clare Fire Company Marine Unit for their role in .

At Tuesday night’s board of supervisors meeting, five marine unit members were present and were given certificates. The rescue occurred over Memorial Day weekend, after the youngster was swept away in the current. She was without a floatation device and was in the water for nearly 30 minutes. The girl was taken to Phoenixville Hospital.

“Upon arrival, these members operated in an outstanding manner by rescuing a 7-year-old female,” read Township Manager George Waterman.

Stiteler’s citation noted the “exemplary performance of duties in overcoming the dangerous conditions during this incident.”

Those honored were Incident Commander Bill Kasper, Operations Chief Charles Palmer, Lieutenant Christopher Boytim, Engineer Walter Hood and Firefighter Steph McCann.
