NWS: Six Inches of Snow Fell in Phoenixville

Though only a fraction of what was predicted, the storm still affected transportation and delayed some community services.

UPDATE: The NWS changed its snowfall number after this story went live. The service now says 6 inches of now fell in the borough.

According to the National Weather Service, Phoenixville saw three inches of snow during this storm. It wasn't the whopper the forecasts predicted, but the storm was still enough to delay openings and snarl transportation.

The Phoenixville Library is operating on a two-hour delay today, opening at 11 a.m., and a movie showing planned for 9:30 a.m. didn't occur at that time. The Daniel J. Detwiler YMCA on Pothouse Road also opened later than expected this morning, at 9 a.m.

SEPTA's Regional Rail is running local service only and some lines are experiencing delays up to 90 minutes. The 99 bus will run to Phoenixville but the route will bypass Cedar Mill.

Though snow totals in the borough didn't hit the eight to 12 inches predicted in the weather service warning, nearby areas did see some deeper snow. The National Weather Service reported that Royersford received seven inches of snow, while Wynnewood garnered 11 inches of snow during the course of the storm.

Road crews worked through the night to clear roads, and Upper Providence Township declared a snow emergency yesterday at noon, meaning all cars had to move off of snow emergency routes or face towing.

Though the winter storm warning expired, the Chester County is still in a wind advisory until 6 p.m. for gusts up to 50 mph.
