On the Agenda: UProv to Consider Liquor License Transfer for New Theater

Representatives of Movie Tavern, coming to Providence Town Center, will seek the transfer.

At Tuesday’s Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board will hold a hearing on a liquor license for a new movie theater coming to the area.

Movie Tavern was granted preliminary land development approval Oct. 4. Now, representatives will come before the board to get the liquor license transfer approved.

“Movie Tavern couples a first-run movie house with full-service restaurant features such as upscale menu items, liquor sales and plush amenities,” according to the Providence Town Center Web site. “[It] will be the first theater to introduce this exciting new concept to the Philadelphia marketplace.”

The theater will join Wegmans, Best Buy and others in the complex, located at Route 29, Arcola Road and the 422 interchange. Movie Tavern will serve as an anchor for the Main Street portion of Providence Town Center, according to the project Web site.

The theater is expected to open this spring.

Also on the agenda, the Schuylkill Canal Association is requesting a $10,000 contribution from the township. The association helps with recreation and restoration at the .

The meeting is a day later than usual due to the Presidents Day holiday and will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
