Ouch: Fees at the DMV Went Up Tuesday

The increases are part of the recent $2.3 billion transportation bill.

As of Tuesday, going to the DMV will hurt just a little bit more than usual.

Vehicle registration, driver's license and ID fees, and a number of other fees increased Tuesday.

Some increases were only a dollar or so -- the cost to register a car or motorcycle went up $1, while the cost to register a motorcycle went up a $1.50, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Some other increases were more extreme.

State ID cards, which residents could get for free while the Voter ID law was in effect, will now cost $27.50, CBS says. A certificate of title, which had been $22.50, will now be $50, the Inquirer says. Certified copies of PennDOT records will jump from $5 to $22.

Other increases, for things like vanity plates, are scheduled to go into effect July 1.

The increases are all part of the $2.3 billion transportation bill signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett in November 2013.
