Pair of Recalls Affect Lowes, RadioShack

A circular saw and a travel charger are defective.

A travel charger that was carried by RadioShack and a circular saw blade that was carried by Lowes have been recalled for posing safety hazards, Patch has learned.

In an April 19 press release, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that consumers should immediately stop using the ‘Digital Concepts Compact Travel Charger’ that retailed at RadioShack, which has a Phoenixville location, and other electronics stores for $10 between January 2011 and February 2012.

According to reports, the charger poses an electrocution hazard. Though no such incidents have been reported, the plastic casing is prone to cracking and breaking, which can expose the energized components inside.

In a separate April 19 release, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Irwin’s Classic Series Circular Saw Blade 3-Pack had been pulled from shelves to avoid a laceration hazard posed by defective packaging.

According to the report, the blade—which retailed for $40, exclusive at Lowes, through November 2011—can potentially fall out the bottom of the packaging, posing the laceration risk. Although there are three reported incidents of this happening, no injuries have been reported.

Consumers who have already purchased the product are asked to contact Irwin directly for a free, safe, container in which to store the blades. To do so, or to get any additional information, contact Irwin at (800) 464-7946 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or visit the firm's website.
