'Summer Food Service Program' Provides Free Meals to Area Kids

Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?

In conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, seven locations in Phoenixville will provide free breakfast, lunch, or dinner to area kids this summer, The Pottstown Post is reporting.

According to the state’s DOE, the only complete meal many impoverished kids get is at school and with that option absent during the summer months, they are at increased risk of hunger. The Summer Food Service Program, available to qualified children aged 18 and younger, mitigates the risk with 2,000 participating locations across the state.

Families interested in registering for the program should call the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY.
