Toomey: Veterans Should Be Able to Sue Over VA Treatment

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) thinks veterans should be able to hold Veterans Affairs accountable for the treatment they do or do not receive.

"The men and women who served in uniform should be first in line for the best quality medical care in the world," Toomey said Tuesday, speaking in Willow Grove. "That's why I will introduce legislation to allow veterans to hold VA employees accountable if they falsify or destroy information relating to a veteran's health care. My legislation would also authorize the firing of VA employees who engage in such activity."

Toomey's bill calls for veterans to receive any monetary damages directly from the at-fault employee or employees, so that there would be no cost to taxpayers. 

Toomey said Tuesday that he plans to introduce the bill, but did not say when.
