Upper Providence Passes 2012 Budget

Taxpayers won't see any changes in tax rates.

In a very brief final meeting of 2011, the Upper Providence Board of Supervisors approved next year’s budget and took care of some other business.

The $11 million general fund budget maintains the zero mill real estate tax rate for township residents. Other tax rates will stay the same at:

  • Earned Income: 1 percent, accounting for 58.9 percent of the township’s total revenue;
  • Per Capita: $5;
  • Real Estate Transfer Tax: 1 percent; and
  • Local Services Tax: $52.

Major expenses include replacing the 1988 aerial truck for $1 million (), $1.5 million in roadwork and $1.2 million in sewer projects.

Board Vice Chairman Philip Barker abstained, and Chairman Robert Fieo and Supervisor John Pearson both voted to pass the 2012 township budget.

In other news, the board unanimously voted to pass an ordinance that would eliminate mandatory connection to sewer lines installed by the township unless there is a health hazard.

“To this point, residents were required to connect when a sewer line was installed by the township,” Township Manager George Waterman said.

Finally, Fieo, who served from 2000 and whose term will end at the close of 2011, was recognized with a resolution honoring his dedication and professionalism during his years of service. Supervisor-elect Lisa Mossie will take the seat at the board’s reorganization meeting.

The board meets next on Jan. 3.
