Upper Providence Township Board Donates Truck to Lower Providence EMS

The truck formerly used by the fire marshal will now carry EMS support staff.

The Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors voted Monday night to donate a truck used by the township’s fire marshal to the Lower Providence EMS.

The truck, a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, was recently replaced and in the past, the board has donated vehicles to other local emergency service providers.

Dave Eckman, Lower Providence EMS chief, said Lower Providence would use the Tahoe for ancillary and support staff when there is an emergency. Eckman said they currently use a Ford Crown Victoria and that having the Tahoe would make emergency crews more visible out on Route 422 and make getting to emergencies on the Perkiomen Trail easier.

The motion to donate the truck passed unanimously.

Township resident Richard Lightcap asked if the board had a response to rumors that the township was going to buy the old original school building on Bechtel Road from Spring-Ford School District. Board member Robert Fieo said Spring-Ford had approached the township about buying the building but there had been no decision about it.

Questioned after the meeting, Fieo said the building requires “a million dollars in renovations” and it wouldn’t be feasible for the township to purchase it, but reiterated that there was no decision made about it.

The township parks and recreation department’s Sue Barker announced that the Anderson Farm Park Recreation Center will open June 13, and the department is currently hosting open houses this week from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the public to tour the center.
