Valley Forge Special Welcome Back Weekend

A weekend full of free and special events welcomes the public back to the park which was closed for more than two weeks.

Valley Forge National Historical Park is re-opened and celebrating the end of the partial government shutdown with a weekend full of free activities, right in our own backyard.

According to a posting by the park on Facebook:

It’s “Welcome Back Weekend” at Valley Forge!
To celebrate the park’s re-opening, park staff and our great partners at The Encampment Store, the VF Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Valley Forge), and The Friends of Valley Forge Park have planned a full weekend of events for Saturday and Sunday. Come on out to enjoy:

• The full array of guided touring options, including by trolley (11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday) and by bicycle (10:30 a.m. Saturday). Both tours are being discounted 10 percent. Bike rentals also are available from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Landscapes and Structures of Valley Forge National Historical ParkPhotography Program resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Covered Bridge. (See previous post or contact Jeff Oates, 610.783.1009 for information. No reservations necessary.)
• Storytellers at Washington’s Headquarters and the Visitor Center
• Ranger-led walks starting at the theater at 12:20 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.
• Living History at the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Children’s activities in the Visitor Center from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. Try on 18th century clothing and play colonial games.
• Renovated entrance to the Visitor Center, sporting new walkways and plantings
• We’ve specially ordered wonderful weather and a stunning display of leaves in gold, orange, russet, and crimson

As always, admission to the park is free. All of us share Superintendent Kate Hammond’s sentiment: “We are happy to be able to welcome the American people back to their National Park.”
