East Pikeland Student Honored for Test Performance

Cole Bright scored top honors on a national test.

During last Thursday’s school board meeting, fourth grader Cole Bright was recognized by East Pikeland Elementary principal Dr. Mary Ann Cox for achieving a perfect score on the quantitative section of the School and College Ability Test (SCAT).

The SCAT measures verbal and quantitative skills at a grade level higher than the student's current level. Bright was a third grader when he took the test in May, which had questions designed for the fifth-grade level. He scored in the 73rd percentile on the verbal section and had a perfect score on the quantitative section.

"He earned top in the country honors for his score," Cox said.

Cole’s score put him in the 99th percentile when compared to fifth-grade students taking the test.

“Cole’s quantitative score earned him ‘Top in the Country’ honors,” according to a district press release. “Not surprisingly, Cole says his favorite subject in school is math.”
