Phoenixville Launching New Math Program for K-6 Students

Because this method is new to many, the district will be offering a "Parent University" in the form of online webinars beginning in August.

Brace yourself for a new math.

Phoenixville Area School District will be introducing Math in Focus: The Singapore Approach for kindergarteners through sixth-graders this fall.

"This curriculum is centered on helping students become more effective problem solvers and mathematicians, and aligns with the National Common Core Standards," the district said.

The Singapore Method is perhaps best known for the method of drawing boxes to help solve arithmetic problems.

Because this method is new to many, the district will be offering a "Parent University" in the form of online webinars beginning in August. There will also be Math in Focus Parent University evenings in September and October, the district said.

Are you familiar with the Singapore Method? And perhaps more importantly, are your prepared to help your children with their math homework this fall?
