Phoenixville's Night at Theater Awards Show

Phoenixville students are honored for their work in theater.

After a walk down the red carpet it was on to honors inside for Phoenixville Area High School Students Sunday at the 2013 Cappies Awards.

The annual awards honor student actors, technicians, musicians, designed and theater critics in the greater Philadelphia region.

37 public and private schools in the city and surrounding counties are nominated and awarded by student theater critics.  The critics themselves are also among the award nominees and winners presented with trophies.  Before the show at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center at Upper Darby High School, nominees walked the red carpet in formal wear and in some cases in costume from shows and musicals presented during the current school year.

Phoenixville Winners

  • The second Cappie of the night went to Amber Mangabat of Phoenixville Area High School for underclass female critic.
  • Phoenixville's Ashley Spina won Best Comic Actress in a play for her role in Romeo and Juliet.  (Abby Gould who played Juliet accepted the award for Spina because Ashley was at a color guard competition and unable to attend)
  • Mercedes Behrman won the Cappies Spirit Award for Phoenixville.

Phoenixville Area High School Principal Dr. Craig Parkinson was also part of the show, presenting the Cappies for Stage Crew (Eastern Regional High School) and Orchestra (Central Bucks High School West).

This was the eighth annual Philadelphia Cappies. The Critics Awards Program  started 14 years ago in the Washington, DC National Capital area.

Thank you Bob. A big thanks for coming to the event and cheering the kids on. Theater is an incredible opportunity for children. It teaches self confidence and poise that will follow them throughout their lives. I invite everyone to come and see a production at PAHS and I guarantee you will be amazed at the talent and dedication of these students.

Hi ?: Thanks for your comment. I have taken down your comment because I simply have no way to identify the person you mentioned and while the comment I took down this morning was indeed in violation of Patch's Terms of Use I want to be careful about protecting the privacy of everyone. For example, I have no way to know if "?" is even your real name. ;-P (Hey Prince changed his name to a symbol, right?) My sincere hope is that moving forward Patch will be a forum for constructive conversation even if commenters strongly disagree with each other. Thanks for weighing and I hope you will continue to comment.

Hey Bob, how are you? I know this is little off topic of the subject of the article, but I was not sure where else to contact you about this question. For a while now, Phoenixville Patch has had a then and now thing, showing a picture what something used to be, then showing what it currently is/ looks like. Is that going to continue by any chance? I thought that feature was pretty neat.
