Phoenixville Schools Receive Awards

Principals were honored with Keystone Achievement Awards for Adequate Yearly Progress.

Prinicipals from Phoenixville Area High School, Phoenixville Area Middle School, East Pikeland Elementary, Schuylkill Elementary and Barkley Elementary were on hand at last Thursday's school board workshop meeting.

The principals collected their Keystone Achievement Awards from Superintendent Dr. Alan Fegley. The award celebrates schools that show consistent academic achievement over two years. The Kindergarten Center is not eligible for the award but all other schools within the district received the honor.

According to a press release from the district:

The 2011 Keystone Achievement Awards are given to public schools that achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both the 2009-10 and the 2010-11 school years.

AYP is determined, in part, by a school’s performance on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA), the standardized test given annually to students in grades three through eight and grade 11.

Only 2,075 schools in Pennsylvania were recipients of this prestigious award—PASD is proud to have all five of our schools among that number.
