The charter won $1,000 for its efforts.

Phoenixville’s  was one of the big donors, and the big winners, in Shire Pharmaceuticals food drive for Philabundance, the Daily Local News is reporting.

The charter raised 10,038 pounds of food for the drive–which ran from February 15 to March 2 and netted 71 tons of food from students in Delaware, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia county schools–and won $1,000 for collecting the most in Chester County.

“It really amazed me and inspired me to see these students be given the opportunity to do something beyond the classroom, and take it to a level that most people would be surprised with,” the academy’s social science coordinator Jami Lynch told the Daily Local.
