Sandusky Has Cost Penn State $129.5M

So far, the Jerry Sandusky scandal has cost Penn State $129.5 million.

The university released updated figures on its website Friday detailing the various legal fees and fines the university has paid up to this point. That total, $69,832,863, does not include civil settlements for victims, which has been reported at a total of $59.7 million for 26 defendants.

That brings the total cost to Penn State to $129.5 million, with more still to be paid out. 

NCAA fines will be paid annually until 2017, the university said.

“The costs surrounding legal defense and public relations efforts for the University associated with the Sandusky matter are not funded by student tuition, taxpayer funds or donations,” the university emphasized on the site.

Sandusky, a former assistant coach at Penn State, was convicted in June 2012 of 45 out of 48 counts of child sexual abuse, and is serving 30 to 60 years in state prison.
