Seven PAHS Seniors Honored with Scholarships

The graduating seniors are part of a program that exposes students to the realities of college for several years while still in high school.

Six Phoenixville Area High School students who have spent the better part of the last two or three years in a special college-prep program are going to college in the fall, armed with some scholarship money.

The students are part of the Destinations with Direction (DWD) program which is a program that according to its mission statement is "designed to increase awareness and motivate students with hih potential from various economic and diverse backgrounds to pursue opportunities in high education."

The students spend two or three years in high school taking part in DWD programs which include regular visits from college professors who show students what the real academic demands of college are, how to interview for college, and tours of college campuses.

The program was started several years ago by PAHS Principal Dr. Craig Parkinson to help prepare kids who might not consider attending college to continue their educations past high school.
