202 Construction Project Affected by Fourth of July Holiday

One of the biggest road projects in the region impacts thousands of Chester County and regional drivers every day, and night.

Construction continues this week on U.S. Route 202 between the Route 401 and U.S. Route 30 interchanges in East Whiteland Township, but it will be limited by the Independence Day holiday.

The following work will be going on through Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation:

  • Route 202 north will be reduced to one lane between Route 30 and Route 401 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work and shoulder paving

  • Route 202 south will be reduced to one lane between the Mill Lane overpass, located north of Route 401, and the Church Road overpass, located south of Route 401, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction at the Route 401 interchange

  • Lane closures will be in place in both directions on Route 401 between Moores Road and Mill Lane in East Whiteland Township from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for road and bridge construction at the Route 202 interchange

  • Scheduled nighttime work on Route 202 and Route 401 also will alternately close the northbound or southbound Route 202 entrance and exit ramps from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • The off-ramp from Route 202 north to Route 29 (Morehall Road) south remains closed until mid-August for mainline paving.

    Detour routes for ramp closures at the Route 29 and Route 401 interchanges are:

    • Route 202 north off-ramp to Route 29 south (Morehall Road): Northbound traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp to Matthews Road at the Route 29 Interchange, then right on Matthews Road to Route 29 (Morehall Road);
    • Route 401 on-ramp to Route 202 south: Traffic will be detoured north on Route 202 to the off-ramp to Matthews Road at the Route 29 Interchange, then right on Matthews Road, right on Route 29 (Morehall Road) and right on Swedesford Road to the ramp to Route 202 south;
    • Route 401 on-ramp to Route 202 north: Traffic will be detoured south on Route 202 to the Route 30/Business off-ramp, then left on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and right at the ramp to Route 202 north;
    • Route 202 north off-ramp to Route 401: Northbound Route 202 motorists will exit at the Route 30/Frazer off-ramp and travel east on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) to the intersection of Route 401 and then turn left on Route 401; and
    • Route 202 south off-ramp to Route 401: Southbound Route 202 traffic will be detoured to the Route 30/Business off-ramp, and then left on Route 30 and right at the on-ramp to Route 202 north to Route 401.

    All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

    PennDOT is rebuilding and expanding Route 202 to six lanes between the Swedesford Road Interchange in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township.
