More Scorching Temperatures on the Way
Soaring temperatures mean higher risk for heat-related medical problems.
As temperatures soar this week in Phoenixville, don't look for any relief in the forecast. The heat index hit 95 degrees just before 4 p.m. According to the National Weather Service even higher temperatures are expected later in the week.
Temperatures are expected to climb will into the 90s every day between now and Sunday when the forecast calls for a bone-chilling 85 degree high temperature.
The National Weather Service Forecast for Phoenixville:
- Wednesday:Sunny, with a high near 93. Northwest wind around 6 mph.
- Wednesday Night:Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Calm wind.
- Thursday:Isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 100. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Thursday Night: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Friday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
- Saturday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
- Sunday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

What is heat stroke?
According to Phoenixville Hospital's web based reference:
- Heat stroke is the most severe form of heat illness and is a life-threatening emergency.
- It is the result of long, extreme exposure to the sun, in which a person does not sweat enough to lower body temperature.
- The elderly, infants, persons who work outdoors, people with mental illness, obesity, poor circulation, and those on certain types of medications or drinking alcohol are most susceptible to heat stroke.
- It is a condition that develops rapidly and requires immediate medical treatment.
