"Bell, Book and Candle" Casts Theatrical Spell in Blackbox Theater at Ursinus College

Just in time for Halloween, the Ursinus College Theater Department stages Bell, Book and Candle, a romantic comedy that evokes the 1950s and the sitcom Bewitched.

Director Beverly Redman directs the play Oct.  30, 31 and Nov. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Blackbox Studio Theater in the campus Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center. Parking, in the lot off Ninth Ave., is free. Tickets, at www.ursinus.edu/tickets, are $5 general admission and $2 for students and senior citizens.

In playwright John Van Druten’s Bell, Book and Candle, a free-spirited witch looking for love casts spells on her neighbor, even though finding love could mean losing her supernatural powers. Bell, Book and Candle enjoyed a successful run on Broadway in the early 1950s and was followed by a hit film, starring: Kim Novak, Jimmy Stewart and Jack Lemon. The television show Bewitched drew its inspiration from the play.
