Kiwanis Community Day Slated for Saturday

More than 80 vendors and organizations will be on hand for the annual event.

Come for the chicken, stay for the fun.

One of the big draws of Kiwanis Community Day, which will be held rain or shine Saturday in , is the chicken barbecue. In addition to a tasty half chicken for $10, the event also features a large flea market, entertainment in the band shell including a performance by the Aerials gymnasts and the opportunity to help the Kiwanis Club out with its mission of helping children in the community.

The event benefits the high school band and the Destination with Directions program at the high school, which helps students plan to make a college education a reality. The theme of community day this year is “Advancing Academics and Music Education.”

Jack Ertell, who is the chairman for Kiwanis Community Day, said hundreds typically flock to the park for the event, which he said has been going on for at least two decades.

“It’s become a community tradition,” Ertell said. “It’s a way for people to have a fun day before the cooler weather starts to roll in.”
