Local Salon Will Hold Hair Cutting Event for Trey Love

All the proceeds will benefit the Love family.

In today’s “what’s in for me, show me the money” world it's easy for people to go through the day, worrying only about that little piece of the universe that affects them directly.

Unfortunately there are many people, families and children that struggle every singe day of their lives and are not as fortunate as most.

Staggering health care costs, a dicey economy and overall lack of time make it entirely too easy for us as humans to say “I’d like to help but what can I do?”

Local salon owner Erin Grohoski, who is mother of a healthy toddler, has taken it upon herself to try to make a difference in the life of a 4-year old little boy who is at war everyday with a deadly enemy that can’t be seen or heard, cancer.

This Sunday, Erin's Salon, Etc. at 455 West Ridge Pike in Limerick will open its doors from 11 am. to 4 p.m. to hold a Cut-a-thon event with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit the Trey Love Foundation.

Trey Love is the 4-year old son of Mike and Missy Love. Trey was diagnosed at 2 years of age with stage four neuroblastoma, a rare but lethal cancer that affects the nerve tissue of children.

After almost two years of endless treatments, stem cell transplants and stints in Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, on March 16, Trey had a fever that spiked to 105 degrees and was airlifted to CHOP, where his blood pressure dropped to 38/14.

Trey had a brain bleed and aneurism, and the cancer had returned. Three scans,  including a bone marrow scan, came back clear, and Trey started radiation this week. As such Trey and his parents will be at CHOP indefinitely.

“As a mother, I can’t even imagine what they have been through,” said Erin Grohoski. “I am so glad that we are holding this event. It's what I can do to try to help out a family that really needs it right now. I have always felt that it is good to give back to the community that has supported us over the years.”

On Sunday it is not about how much hair you have. It's not an event where they hair will be donated.

Whether you are cutting off 10 inches of flowing hair or getting a trim, every cent made that day will be donated to the Trey Love Foundation.

Grohosky and her staff, including stylists from outside the area making the trip to Limerick for a great cause, are planning on keeping the door open as long as there is hair to be cut.

“We have stylists coming from as far away as the Poconos to help,” said Grohosky. “If we have people still coming in we will stay open as long as we need to. The whole idea is to raise as much money as we can to help Trey and his family.”

Hair cut prices will be $15 for kids 8 and under, $20 for men, shampoo and cut for ladies $25, shampoo/cut and blow dry 35. Every person who participates in the cut-a-thon will also receive a $10 gift certificate for future services at Erin's.

There will be raffles for prizes and gifts on site that day, with all proceeds going to the cause.

Some of the prizes available will be with a product basket donated from Raylon Corporation, Longaberger baskets donated by Patrica Burke of Limerick, senior portrait package gift certificates donated by Cornerstone Scholastic Portraits and DRC Photography of Trappe, bracelets and gift certificates for service at Erin's Salon, Etc.

An array of food and beverages will be on hand, made and donated by friends and families and any members of the community that wish to participate.

Trey’s cancer is terminal and his is paralyzed on his right side. This is an opportunity to afford the family the chance to spend as much of his remaining time with their beloved little boy.

Erin's Salon, Etc. has held hair cutting events to benefit other causes such as Hope Cuts in the past but this is the first time Grohosky has had a personal attachment to the person directly involved as Grohosky and one of her employees have known of Trey since his diagnosis.

“I don’t want people being confused,” added Grohosky. “It doesn’t matter how much hair they have cut. Even if you don’t need a haircut, donations will also be accepted during the cut-a-thon.”

The Web site www.helptreylove.com has more than 21,000 supporters and followers, which is a 125 percent increase from just 60 days ago.

“I am the step-mom of twins,” said stylist Lea Capri. “I would not know what to do if one or both had a disease like this. I hope we are so busy that we don’t have enough chairs for people to sit and it’s crazy here."

The event starts at 11 a.m. and appointments are recommended and being accepted at 610-495-4545 or log on to www.erinssalon.com for more information.
