Report: Relocated Vogels Launch Foundation in Gabby’s Memory

DelmarvaNow.com recently reported on the Vogels next steps after losing their 5-year-old daughter to cancer.

John Vogel took an icy swim in memory of 5-year-old daughter Gabby on Valentine’s Day.

The Vogels have since moved out of Phoenixville to Ocean View, DE, and their story continues to reach people across the country and the world. News site DelmarvaNow.com reported that the Vogels reached their goal of more than 30,000 fans on the Get Well Gabby Facebook page. With that accomplishment, Gabby’s dad pledged to dive into the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Now, according to the report, the Vogels hope to get 501(c)3 status as a non-profit foundation aimed at raising awareness and seeking a cure for childhood cancer.

In the spring of last year, Gabby was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The Phoenixville community rallied around the family, holding a vigil. Gabby died Sept. 11, and once again the community came together in Reeves Park for a pink balloon-filled celebration of life on what would have been Gabby Vogel’s sixth birthday.
