Vigil, Benefits Set for Trey Love This Weekend and Beyond

Show your support for the Love family at several upcoming events.

One little boy is making big news, and local communities are rallying to support his family.

When 4-year-old Trey Love’s rare form of childhood cancer returned, a family who thought it was out of the woods is now back at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as Trey fights for his life.

After Trey’s surgery last weekend, the Phoenixville community rallied together. Now living in Royersford, the family formerly lived in Phoenixville, and many supporters showed up at a to show support.

Katie Jeffers-Bala said the family is overwhelmed with the outpouring.

“Words can’t even describe how Mike and Missy [Trey’s parents] and those close to the family feel about the support,” she said. “It’s just been amazing.”

Team Trey has heard from people all over the country, as far away as California, who’ve been touched by Trey’s story.

“Someone wrote on Trey’s Facebook wall today that he’s teaching us more than we’d ever be able to teach him,” Jeffers-Bala said. “This story touched so many people, and it’s making people look at their lives a little differently.”

According to an update posted by Jeffers-Bala on Thursday, a pathology report confirmed that Trey’s neuroblastoma had recurred. However, there was good news.

“Trey’s MIBG scan came back negative—nothing glowed,” Jeffers-Bala wrote. “The doctors had anticipated glowing … a virtual Christmas tree … but once again the power of prayer has prevailed and Trey has won this battle in this horrific war he is waging.”

On Friday, the family had a good day, and some of Trey’s buddies came to visit him in the hospital, Jeffers-Bala said. Trey’s making strides medically since his surgery.

“Even the doctors have been saying they’ve never seen anything like this,” Jeffers-Bala said.

The weekend will be test-free, and on Monday, the family will deal with more scans to look into Trey’s bones and bone marrow to see if the cancer progressed.

“Missy’s hoping the good news continues,” Jeffers-Bala said.

As for Team Trey, the cause page  swelled to more than 11,000 members, and those close to the family are receiving many e-mails each day. Jeffers-Bala and Jill McMahon-Ford said they’ll do their best to respond to everyone, but the responses may take a bit as the response to Trey’s story has been so strong.

Trey’s parents wish to take their son on a trip to Disney World, where the family went after Trey kicked cancer the first time around. They’ll also need financial support to be near Trey.
