By the way, Corbett admitted to cutting state funding for Education: Today, after touring Mt. hatboro dad July 7, 2014 at 10:18 pm
Tom, that is the epitome of cherry picking. It is a single, albeit tragic event. Scientists do notRead More deal with n's of 1. To draw a conclusion requires analyzing rates of incidence and prevalence and statistical significance. Does any of that matter to that family? Of course not, but for society? yes. So, no, the Pottstown Mercury is not reputable for reporting science, only sensationalism. Talk to me when you understand the scientific process. And I am sad for you that 'progressive' is a perjorative.

I don't understand where they find these people for their survey. As a college educated health careRead More worker, I don't know anyone who doesn't feel that marihuana should be legalized. Anyone who is going to smoke pot will do so whether it's legal or not. As for medical marihuana, there already is a pill form. It's called Marinol. I personally know some inside things about 1 casino in the area. They have tightened down machine toRead More the limit Harrisburg allows & yes there is a limit. But they have also asked employees to go past that limit so machines don't pay out as much or often. Those employees have left their jobs that day as they get the fine and can not work in the business again & so do the casino. Which is a disgrace. Why would people return if you are not even getting a quarter back on $100 played? I would not go either as often. So of course gambling would be down, plus you take into account that in AC the promotions to get you to go there are so much better even after not being there for over a year. When here the incentive is not great. Why blow your $ It is said that I have many friends in the business & they did well $ wise at their jobs until now. Some news people & Harrisburg should get inside to see what goes on behind the machines. The only way to win is luck at card games verses machines anymore. I personally use to go often because I lived close by now I have a longer drive so I stay away & can't afford to gamble like I used to. It is like walking in and saying here is $200 just take it. Sorry but I know way to much about how they operate on the inside & that needs to change for $20 I have a better chance of winning the lottery.

Tony Ciaverelli July 3, 2014 at 08:00 am
Comments ring true for many politicians, but Rep Kampf has chosen to refuse his pension and all ofRead More the other perks of the job to lead by example. We all need to vote for leaders in November who are willing to make sacrifices like we all are making in order for us to solve our problems.
Susan Gracely July 3, 2014 at 05:02 pm
Let's see. The Legislature has debunked on it's obligation to fund the pension funds for 16 yearsRead More and therefore the solution is to change it? It worked for decades before, when it was funded. And what the effect of Rendell forcing 80% of the state workforce to retire en mass, creating increased the pension payouts, while hiring new employees at base salaries whose contributions are, therefore, far lower than the previous workforce. I am glad it failed.

I'm glad for the comments from people who understand how important medical marijuana if for those ofRead More us who suffer with a chronic illness! Those of you who put it down, tell me something, do you have a chronic illness, or a loved one suffering from one? My guess is, most of you don't, and those that do and are still against it, sorry to say but you are so brain washed by the tons of bs we're constantly being fed by nothing more then the profit over health big pharma companies! I have an illness that is attacking all throughout my body, and I can even die from it in the end. I can tell you my experience with some of the crap pills they have prescribed me made me more sick, and had some dangerous side effects that warranted a trip to the emergency room! So yea, when I see your judgmental ignorant complaints I am offended! Many of us out there are not drug abusers looking for the legalization to just get HIGH! They make cannabis as well where you don't even get high, but just gain the benefits of feeling much better, or even in some cases can be cured, depending on the illness. Stop bashing people who are for the legalization, and making the assumption that we're all just low life scum looking to get high legally! You don't know these people personally, or the effects of their illness's in what they have gone through and are still going through!
big mouth June 29, 2014 at 05:24 pm
I love the ignorance of some people here. They condemned and judge without even taking the time orRead More effort to do the slightest bit of research on the subject. If they were suffering from the side effects of chemo, chronic pain, M.S., or glaucoma they would most certainly want effective help from whatever source, either that or whine and feel sorry for themselves. What is wrong about those of us who have legitimate, documented, medical conditions that could be helped by legalizing marijuana? Why prejudge us as a bunch of rabid drug addicts looking for a fast high? Right now we have only a few options, one, take narcotic pain meds, which by the way, are proven to be physically addictive, two take cox 2 inhibitors which have been proven to cause heart attacks, strokes and other serious "side effects", three, take NSAIDS which affect your kidneys and liver and provide minimal relief in most cases, and finally do nothing and suffer debilitating effects of various diseases. Yes, we have one other option, we can illegally buy cannabis and support our local gang bangers and risk jail, loss of our children, loss of our homes, families, and freedom. What real choice do we have? We can fight to legalize cannabis so we can get real relief from pain, nausea, increased ocular pressure, etc. Without side effects or risk of addiction. All things considered, what is the smartest, most health concious decision we can make? It sounds like fighting to get cannabis legalized here in PA the same as it is in numerous other states. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out...
