The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has joined the Limerick Police in the crash investigation.
Authorities have identified the victim in Monday afternoon's fatal crash on N. Lewis Road in Limerick Township as Merinda Thompson, 40. An autopsy on her body is scheduled for later Tuesday. In a statement issued to local media, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman's office said that authorities are in possession of the cell phone belonging to the 18-year-old male driver of the green Ford Focus that struck Thompson as she jogged along the roadside. The driver had previously declined to provide the phone to police or to make a statement at the crash scene. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck her reportedly refused to give a statement to police.
A jogger was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle on N. Lewis Road in Limerick, Limerick Patch is reporting. Police said that a green Ford Focus traveling northbound on N. Lewis Road crossed into the southbound lane "for unknown reasons" and struck a woman wearing jogging clothes before hitting a utility pole. The woman was not carrying identification when she was killed, but the department indicated on its Facebook page that it had tentatively identified her from information on her cell phone. The 18-year-old male driver of the Focus sustained minor injuries and was transported to Phoenixville Hospital for treatment.
