Ken Smith was named East Pikeland Township's Police Officer of the Year.
Officer Ken Smith of the East Pikeland Police Department was named the township's Police Officer of the Year earlier this month. According to Chief James Franciscus, Smith was selected for the honor by his peers. Smith received the award after spearheading an investigation that lead to the arrest of two people who were using stolen credit cards to purchase legal gift cards at the Wawa store in East Pikeland. Officer Smith received a ribbon for his uniform and a plaque that was presented by Supervisor Ben Campbell.
Antonio Girifalco was heavily armed, Schuylkill Township Police are reporting.
A 23-year-old Phoenixville man is in Chester County Prison after he engaged area police in a nearly two-hour standoff from his Continental Drive home, Schuylkill Township Police said. Though Antonio Girifalco was heavy armed during the standoff and threatened to shoot himself, family members and authorities, according to police, there were no injuries reported. On March 8, Schuylkill Township Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Continental Drive for a report of a loud verbal dispute between two men. According to court documents, while the officers were en route, they received an update that a gunshot had been fired. An East Pikeland Police officer says he spied a glass pipe through an open window while on an unrelated visit.
A 26-year-old Phoenixville man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia late last month after an East Pikeland Police officer, while making a visit to an apartment adjoining his, spotted a glass pipe through his open window, the department is reporting. According to court documents, on Feb. 26 at 5:20 p.m., an officer stopped by an apartment on the 500 block of Deer Run Lane to investigate a separate incident. While the officer was on the porch waiting to be admitted to the residence, he spotted a glass marijuana pipe sitting in “plain view” in the defendant’s kitchen, police say. Police say the man had blood on his face and hands when they took him into the station.
A 32-year-old Phoenixville man was arrested last weekend after police say he assaulted his wife, even biting the woman at one point, during a drive home from a wedding. According to court documents, on Feb. 24 at 2:15 a.m., East Pikeland police responded to the 100 block of East Seven Stars Road after receiving an anonymous report of a domestic disturbance. When the officer arrived at the scene, he saw a grey Audi in the driveway of the residence in question. A woman was attempting to get out of the car, while a man was pulling her back in, according to police. Police say the officer told the man to back away from his wife, but he refused. According to East Pikeland Police, two men were charged with marijuana possession after crashing near the intersection of Kimberton and Pothouse roads.
On Feb. 19 at approximately 3:40 p.m., East Pikeland Police charged an 18-year-old Downingtown man and an 18-year-old Phoenixville man, a resident of the 600 block of Deger Avenue, with possession of a small amount of marijuana after they were involved in an auto accident at the intersection of Kimberton Road and Pothouse Road, the department is reporting. The men were both processed and released pending a hearing.

Koukos, a resident of the 1900 block of Revolutionary Court in Phoenixville, was charged on February 11 with ten felony counts of child pornography and an additional charge of criminal use of a communication facility, after he allegedly sent pictures of his penis to an investigator who was posing as a 14-year-old boy in a chat room. East Pikeland Police made the arrest last Wednesday on Ridge Road.
East Pikeland Police are reporting that they arrested a local man last week who was in possession of marijuana he intended to sell. According to court documents, on January 30 at 1:18 a.m., an officer on patrol pulled over a white Volkswagen on Ridge Road because the vehicle’s windows were tinted to a degree that was illegal. The officer noted that the driver, Herbert Lee Williams, 19, smelled like marijuana and removed him from the vehicle to perform a search. During this pat down—during which Williams denied being in possession of marijuana—the officer’s partner saw a large plastic bag filled with ten individually packaged bags of what appeared to be marijuana sitting by the center console. A Phoenixville couple was arrested on multiple felony charges last week after police say they, over the course of at least 14 months, were systematically stealing narcotic pain medication from the woman’s father and replacing it with anti-diarrhea medicine. According to court documents, on November 9, 2011, a Phoenixville man called East Pikeland Police to his Merlin Road residence to report that his pain medication had been disappearing. The man, who was bedridden, told police that he believed his daughter, primary caregiver, and power of attorney Dana Vognetz, 37, had been stealing the medicine.
