Health Dept. Releases October Restaurant Inspection Reports

Sal's Pizza Box, Wasko's, Xpress Pizza and Grille, and Phoenixville Middle School were inspected.

The following Phoenixville businesses were inspected by the Chester County Health Department in the month of October. An important caveat: the language of these reports can be misleading, as they often describe potential problems as actual problems. For example, “presence of rodents/insects” could mean there's an infestation, or it might just mean the business in question left a back door open—which could lead to an infestation.  The results of each of the county's 2012 health inspections are available here.   1000 Purple Pride Parkway Inspection Date: 10/23/2012 Total Score: 95 (out of 100) Critical Violation   95 Nutt Road Inspection Date: 10/9/2012 Total Score: 94 (out of 100) Critical Violation Non-Critical Violation   223 Gay Street …

According to the county food code, Boston Market management was instructed to institute and maintain “vector eradication measures…until the premises are vector free.” They appear to have done so. A June 12 inspection indicated no presence of rodents or insects, but several other minor violations. Health Dept. Finds Multiple 'Critical' Violations at Columbia Bar

A breakdown of Chester County's June food inspection reports.

Editor’s note: Soon after our publication of the May 2012 Chester County Health Department Food Inspection Scores, representatives of several of the Phoenixville eateries that had been surveyed expressed the view that the reports were unfit to publish. They argued that the language in the health department’s reports is notoriously ambiguous and even misleading. The reports, they said, tend to frame potential hazards as actual hazards and generally overstate the extent of specific problems within the restaurants.  (A representative from the county health department later corroborated this. In an email exchange with Patch, she acknowledged that the wording of the reports is imperfect and said the county is weighing changes to its health …
