Steel City Coffeehouse: Carbs and Caffeine on Bridge Street

Daytimes at Steel City are mellow with a side of java.

My cousin Ed and I have been daytime patrons of Steel City since it opened in 2001.  While the nighttime bursts with music and patrons lining up outside the door (especially on Thursday Open Mic nights), daytime is a quieter affair with a steady scattering of laptop users and newspaper readers, sipping coffee in ceramic mugs and absorbing (or ignoring in favor of their own work) the calmer music playing over the sound system. Change to a long-term oasis can be fraught with anxiety. We hate the “new” wall colors of dark brick red with chartreuse accents which darken the space unnecessarily and do nothing for the “for sale” artwork which should be highlighted by the color scheme. Local Phoenixville Restaurants Spotlight Their Specialties at Phoenixville Restaurant Festival

Citizens of the Phoenixville area enjoyed a beautiful day by sampling local Phoenixville cuisine.

On May 22, restaurants served samples of their favorite and latest menu items to local patrons during the Phoenixville Restaurant Festival. Along with popular eateries on Bridge Street, there were a surprising number of new vendors who were showcasing niche dishes. “This is my first time at Phoenixville Restaurant Festival selling cupcakes,” Stacie Bellos, owner of Sweet Velvet, said. Even though Bellos is new to the cupcake business, she is a veteran of Phoenixville and her parents own and operate Bridgeside Deli. “[My mom] is an inspiration,” Bellos said.
