The Charlestown bridge will be demolished and rebuilt as the Pennsylvania Turnpike is widened to six lanes.
A portion of Valley Hill Road in Charlestown Township will close Monday as the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission prepares to demolish and rebuild the bridge spanning the I-76. The work will be done by West Chester-based contractor Road-Con Inc., and is expected to take until November, according to the PTC: The bridge will be closed to accomodate a project to widen and improve the turnpike:

Road work, like a dental appointment, is both terrible and necessary. According to The Mercury, here’s a quick look at what we'll have to endure in the coming week. Yellow Springs Road in Charlestown Closed or detoured btween Route 29 and Howel’s Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from September 24 to September 28. Charlestown Road in Charlestown Lane closures between 29 and Pothouse Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from September 26 through September 28. Additionally, there will be occasional lane closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 2014. Route 29 in Charlestown Lane restrictions between Yellow Springs and Phoenixville Pike from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 2014.

The contractor has scheduled construction related activities next week that will impact Yellow Springs Road and Rt. 29 Monday - Friday (Sept. 10-14). TURNPIKE MAINLINE I-76: No traffic restrictions scheduled next week. YELLOW SPRINGS ROAD: Yellow Springs Road will be closed and detoured over North Valley Road, East Swedesford Road and Route 29 (Morehall Road) during overhead bridge work (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area; to avoid delays seek alternate routes. The 12 road project began in July 29.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation launched an $11 million project earlier this week to repair 50 miles of roadway in Chester County, the Daily Local News is reporting. According to the paper, work started on the 12 roads on July 29 and are scheduled to be completed by August of 2013. The state funded project will be overseen by general contractor Allan A. Myers West LP and will entails the repair of Route 30, Business Route 30, Route 926, Route 29, parts of Route 10 and a handful of side roads.
