Turnpike Wreck Brings Morning Commute to Crawl

A driver is airlifted to hospital after truck overturns at Valley Forge Turnpike ramp, snarling traffic in the region.

The morning commute was brought to a crawl for thousands of drivers who pass through the busy area where the Schuylkill Expressway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (both I-76) meet at the Valley Forge/King of Prussia interchange. A tractor-trailer hauling a containerized shipping unit like the ones carried on ocean-going cargo ships flipped on its side on the on ramp from Valley Forge to the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike. Crews from Berwyn, Radnor, King of Prussia, Norristown and other Montgomery County fire and rescue companies responded to the scene of the wreck, which happened around 7:15 a.m. The driver was pulled from the crushed cab and airlifted to the emergency crew. Contract Awarded for $4.2 Mil Upgrade to Route 29

Montco firm Allan A. Myers LP will handle the job.

Andy Dinniman (D-19) announced that Montgomery County based contractor Allan A. Myers LP has been awarded a $4.2 million contract to widen a stretch of Route 29, the Daily Local News is reporting. The project comprises the construction of an extra north- and southbound lane and five-foot-wide shoulders in a stretch of the throughway between Yellow Springs Road and Phoenixville Pike. Construction is expected to begin this summer and wrap by June of 2014, during which a single lane of traffic in each direction will remain open.
