UPDATE: Suspects in Pa. House Hotel Shooting Arrested in Pottstown

Shawn Nafeese Duell Jr., 20, and Garrett Sterner, 19, were arrested on Friday.

The two men suspected in the May 8 shooting of a Phoenixville teen were arrested by Pottstown Police on Friday.

According to Phoenixville Sergeant Joe Nemic, as originally reported in The Mercury, Shawn Nafeese Duell Jr., 20, and Garrett Sterner, 19, were arrested in a Pottstown apartment on May 11 by police with a warrant pursuant to a separate crime.

Both suspects are being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility; Duell on a $1 million cash bail, Sterner on $5,000.

Duell, believed to be the gunman in the , 18, in the parking lot of the Pennsylvania House Hotel, is also suspected in the April 15 shooting of a man and a woman on Buttonwood Alley in Pottstown. Nemic said that, previous to Duell’s arrest, the Pottstown and Phoenixville police departments surmised that the crimes were related.

Evidence collected at the scene of the arrest supported this suspicion: A vehicle matching the description of the one that was used in the Phoenixville shooting, a silver four-door Nissan sedan, was found outside the East High Street apartment.

“We’re currently investigating those two individuals as suspects,” Nemic told Patch. “We’ve been working with the Pottstown detectives all weekend on it.”

Duell has been charged with attempted murder, felony counts of aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and robbery related to the April 15 shooting, while Sterner has been charged with harboring a fugitive.

Nemic said Phoenixville Police don’t have any time frame for when, or if, charges will be levied against Duell and Sterner for the May 8 shooting they believe was drug related.

Nemic said he will perform another interview with the victim, who underwent emergency surgery at Paoli Memorial Hospital after being shot in the groin, Monday afternoon.

He added that Brown is doing well.
